Megalodon was the biggest carnivorous shark of the geological history. The shark achieved lengths of up to 25 metres and a weight up to 50 tons.
It lived in the time of the Miozän about 24 to 5 million years ago; it presumably died out at the end of the Pliozän in front of about 1.6 million.
